Michigan's top companies are teaming up-- demanding new laws to protect gays from workforce discrimination.
Consumers Energy, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Whirlpool, Google, and Dow Chemical are among the companies that have joined together to form the Michigan Competitive Workforce Coaltion.
They plan to push state lawmakers to expand the Civil Rights Act to make it illegal for employers to discriminate against workers based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
The businesses say this will help attract more talent to Michigan.
