"the condition of the cats is remarkably well. Tthey're happy and healthy, a little stressed out from the transport., but they're friendly cats. And we're happy to have them in our shelter and get them adopted soon."

Dozens of cats are rescued from a hoarding situation in Jackson County today.

The Cascades Humane Society tells us a woman living at Pleasant Lake contacted them last week, saying she needed help caring for her cats. When staff arrived today to pick them up they discovered nearly sixty cats in the home.

Despite the fact staff had to wear hazmat suits to remove them, the cats are in good condition.

The shelter is asking the community for donations to help pay for all the surgical and medical costs to treat the cats. They could also use kitten food, cat litter, and large dog cages.

Cascades Humane Society is located on Carmen Drive in Jackson. They’re open from noon until six daily.
