Authorities in Orange County, California say the person who left porcelain dolls on the doorsteps of several families wanted to spread cheer, not to creep them out.
The sheriff's department says the dolls were dressed in nightgowns and lace dresses and were left at about eight homes in a San Clemente neighborhood this week.
The families were worried because they felt each doll resembled a young girl living in the house.
Authorities say they investigated and determined the intent had been goodwill.
