CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- Five children and their mother were injured when their van was struck by another vehicle at an intersection in Macomb County's Chesterfield Township.
The Macomb Daily in Mount Clemens reports (http://bit.ly/xXCUuM ) that the family was hospitalized Friday.
The children range in age from 8 to 13. Four of the children and their mother were listed in serious condition. An 11-year-old was in critical condition and transferred to a Detroit hospital.
Police said the van was hit by a Jeep about 7:30 a.m. and then struck another car.
Chesterfield Township Detective Sgt. Deron Myers says the children's mother "really wasn't sure" if she had a green light at the intersection.
Drivers of the other two vehicles told police their traffic signals were green. Occupants of those vehicles were not seriously hurt.
