JACKSON - There will be no trial for a woman accused of murdering her nine-month-old child five years ago. Amber Murphy pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of manslaughter Thursday in Jackson County circuit court. She faces a potential 15-year prison sentence.
Murphy had been charged with murder and child abuse. The child abuse charge was dropped.
Murphy was due to go to trial Monday.
Murphy's son, Seth, died in 2009 from blunt force trauma to his head. The murder and child abuse charges were not brought against Amber Murphy until June of 2012.
