EATON CO. - The mother of a child killed in a September car accident is being charged with murder and drunk driving. The Eaton County Prosecutor's Office announced Monday that it has charged 27-year-old Starr Kiogima-McGill of Grand Ledge with second-degree murder and operating while intoxicated. Prosecutors say that on the afternoon of September 11th, the car driven by Kiogima-McGill collided with another vehicle in Delta Township, as she was attempting to enter the highway from the exit ramp from West Saginaw Highway. Her car rolled over, and her 4-year-old daughter, Natlie, was ejected. The child died from her injuries.
A statement from the prosecutor, Douglas Lloyd, says "Investigators say that Ms. Kiogima-McGill committed a combination of acts where she demonstrated wonton and willful disregard of the likelihood that the natural tendancy of her acts would cause great bodily harm or death."
Kiogima-McGill faces up to life in prison if convicted of second-degree murder. She is being jailed on $1 million bond.
