Monroe, Livingston Counties Latest to Ban Spice

MONROE, Mich. (AP) -- At least two more counties have declared imminent health dangers and banned the sale of so-called synthetic marijuana.

Monroe and Livingston counties are the latest to prohibit the product. The Livingston County health department says a local hospital is treating up to nine people a month who have bad reactions to synthetic marijuana, which is known as Spice and K2.

It's a mix of dried herbs and spices sprayed with chemicals and smoked by users. Lawmakers in Lansing are passing bills to ban it statewide. It has been linked to health problems and violent behavior.

Detroit-area counties, the city of Detroit and other communities have adopted their own prohibition even before lawmakers act. Concerned parents also have been visiting stores to urge owners to get rid of it.
