Minimum Wage Study Says Increase Would Benefit Michigan's Economy

By  |

The Michigan League for Public Policy is calling for a boost in the minimum wage, saying it would help the state's economy.

Its new report says most people who hold minimum wage jobs are 20 years of age, or older, and supporting children. It says twenty five percent of those working for minimum wage jobs are supporting twenty percent of Michigan’s children.

The league says the best way to help these workers would be to increase the minimum wage to $10.10. It’s currently at $7.40.

The report states a minimum wage increase would bring in more than one-billion dollars in economic activity, and create more jobs.
