LANSING - The unemployment rate dropped in Mid-Michigan in the month of April. Figures released Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget show that the rate of unemployment in the Lansing - East Lansing job market was at 6.1% in April, down from 6.4% in March, and 7.3% in April of 2013.
In the Jackson area labor market the unemployment rate was 7.2%, down from 8.2% in March and 8.3% in April 2013.
The unemployment rate decreased in 16 of Michigan's 17 labor markets in April.
"Much of what occurred in Michigan's various local labor markets in April was seasonal, as employment typically expands after the winter months," said Jason Palmer, director of the Bureau of Labor Market Information & Strategic Initiatives. "However, employment gains have been very solid in the majority of the state's regions since April 2013."
