LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Michigan is one of three states chosen to pilot a new initiative intended to help military veterans find jobs.
Michigan will join Iowa and Tennessee as the first states participating in the Hiring our Heroes program's All Vet States program. State officials say participating in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation's initiative will give Michigan more visibility as a destination for active-duty members transitioning to civilian life.
Hiring our Heroes will feature Michigan on its website and link to a state website. Gov. Rick Snyder made the announcement Tuesday at his economic summit in Grand Rapids.
The state expects 30,000 to 50,000 veterans to move to Michigan in the next three to five years. Hiring our Heroes' director credits Michigan for being "very active" in recruiting veterans to the state.
