Michigan Native to Compete in First-Ever Snowboarding Olympic Event

A Milford, Michigan native will be a part of a first-ever event for snowboarding at the Winter Games in Sochi, Russia this week.

Karly Shorr was invited to Sochi after two runner-up finishes at two Olympic qualifying events last month.

The 19-year-old grew up snowboarding at Boyne Mountain and was a competitive gymnast until the age of 14.

You can watch Karly Thursday night, when coverage of the Winter Olympics begins on WILX. She'll be competing in the U.S. Women's Snowboarding Slopestyle, a new event to the Olympic games this year.
