Michigan Democrats Plan Town Halls in 9 Cities

LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Democratic lawmakers are planning to hold town hall-style events in nine Michigan cities in the next month.

Democrats in the state House say they want to hear from citizens about how Republicans' priorities have affected them.

The first event is scheduled to kick off Monday in Canton Township west of Detroit. Other stops in coming weeks will include cities such as Detroit, Grand Rapids and Flint.

Republicans have control of the Legislature and governor's office. Democrats are hoping to turn things around in 2014 by highlighting GOP actions they say hurt the middle class.

School funding, taxes and the state's unemployment rate most likely will be discussed at the town hall events.
