Meijer and Peckham Industries were recognized by Lt. Gov. Brian Calley Monday for employing people with disabilities.
Lt. Gov. Calley presented company representatives with the first Better Off Working Awards.
A new report details programs helping people with disabilities and highlights changes that need to be made.
The lieutenant governor says partnering with the private sector is essential to creating opportunities.
"People can purse their hopes and dreams and aspirations without a diagnosis or a label holding them back," Lt. Gov. Calley said.
The Department of Human Services was a part of Monday's presentation. DHS created the Better Off Working group last year to address challenges people with disabilities face in the workplace.
