Man Who Killled Trooper Butterfield Is Brain Dead

The man who shot and killed Michigan State Police Trooper Paul Butterfield last year has been deemed clinically brain dead after hanging himself in his jail cell.
Eric Knysz remains on a ventilator at Allegiance Hospital in Jackson while doctors run tests to see if his organs can be donated.
The department of corrections says he tried to kill himself with a bed sheet at the "Egeler Reception Center" in Jackson.
A source tells our affiliate,, WOOD-TV,, Knysz was not on suicide watch and hadn't threatened to kill himself.
