Authorities say they arrested a 19-year-old man who fired shots into the air in a crowd of about 200 people just off the Western Michigan University campus.
Police say no one was hurt in the incident that happened about 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
Kalamazoo public safety Lt. David Boysen says officers were addressing the crowd when the man pulled out a handgun and fired three shots.
Boysen says the crowd scattered, and two officers chased and caught the suspect.
He says the suspect threw a .38 caliber revolver under a car. He says the weapon was stolen from its owner in Parchment.
Boysen says the Kalamazoo man is jailed on charges of reckless discharge of a firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm, obstructing police and possession of stolen property.
