The man killed in Monday afternoon's accident on Interstate 69 has been identified as 53-year-old George Comrie of Charlotte. His wife was in the passenger seat and suffered undisclosed injuries. She was taken to Sparrow Hospital. She has been identified by friends as Trixie Comrie.
The accident happened when a semi-truck traveling south on I-69 plowed into the rear of the Comrie's car. The car was virtually at a standstill, waiting for an earlier accident to be cleared.
Eaton County Sheriff's Deputies say a car had veered off the highway near the Lansing Road exit, and lanes were blocked off to allow a tow truck to clear the scene.
Authorities are still investigating to determine why the driver of the truck failed to slow down.
