ROMULUS, Mich. (AP) -- An American Airlines contract employee has been killed while working at Detroit Metropolitan Airport.
In a statement, Prospect Airport Services says the man was working on a ramp near a bag belt loader when the incident occurred around 5 a.m. EDT Friday.
Airport spokesman Michael Conway says the man was getting ready to load items onto a plane bound for Dallas-Fort Worth. Conway says emergency personnel rushed the man to a hospital, and, according to Prospect, he was pronounced dead there.
The Des Plaines, Illinois, company says it's investigating the cause of the incident and making grief counseling available to co-workers and family.
Prospect President Vicki Strobel says "words cannot express how incredibly saddened" the company is by "the loss of a dedicated Prospect team member." His name wasn't released.
