DETROIT (AP) -- Police say a man originally reported as slain following a shooting in a Detroit high school parking lot is in critical condition at an area hospital.
Chief James Craig told reporters Saturday that 19-year-old Darryl Smith was struck when shots were fired from a car into a crowd Friday night leaving a program at East English Village Preparatory Academy.
Craig says the shooting was gang related and that Smith was caught in the line of fire. He says Smith was not involved in any gangs.
No other injuries were reported.
Detroit Public Schools spokesman Steve Wasko told The Detroit News the shooting victim is not a student at the school.
About 800 people attended Friday's annual Grammy Night for high school seniors and families at the school.
