A man from Michigan Center is looking at a long list of charges stemming from an incident in Blackman Township Tuesday. Police say Jeffery Salyers was drunk when he got into an argument with a man over some scrap metal. They say he took off before crashing his SUV with his three-year-old son inside. In addition to assault and drunk driving, Salyers is also charged with child abuse for tossing the child through one of the SUV's broken windows. Police say Salyers was belligerent and combative when they took him to jail and had to be subdued with a chemical irritant. The child was treated for a cut on his forehead and placed in the custody of child protective services.
