HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. (AP) -- A 30-year-old man has been charged in a Detroit-area crash that killed the driver of a medical transport van and two patients heading for dialysis treatments.

Jeremy Yancey of Macomb County's Chesterfield Township was arraigned Wednesday in Highland Park District Court.

He's charged with three counts each of second-degree murder and causing death while driving impaired, plus one count of reckless driving causing death.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office says police tried to stop Yancey on April 12 after seeing his van speeding through the Detroit enclave of Highland Park. Officers ended the chase for safety reasons, but the van continued on until it struck the medical transport van.

A judge set Yancey's bond at $500,000 and scheduled a May 7 preliminary examination. Yancey doesn't yet have a lawyer.
