DETROIT (AP) -- A 59-year-old Detroit man faces several charges in connection with the severe burning of his girlfriend after gasoline was poured on her and she was set afire during an argument.
Wayne County prosecutors said Donald Chapman was charged Saturday with assault with intent to murder, torture, arson and domestic violence. The 45-year-old woman is in the hospital, being treated for burns over about 40 percent of her body, according to authorities.
Chapman was arrested after the assault early Friday in an apartment on Detroit's east side.
It wasn't clear if Chapman has an attorney. He's expected to be arraigned Sunday in district court in the Detroit suburb of Romulus.
