The Michigan Department of Corrections says two parole agents have been suspended as officials investigate why two ex-convicts now charged in the slaying of an 80-year-old woman in suburban Detroit were free at the time of the killing.
The Detroit Free Press reports (http://on.freep.com/yhvKVZ) Tuesday that the agents supervising 48-year-old Alan Wood and 40-year-old Tonia Watson passed up numerous opportunities to return the pair to prison last year. The newspaper cited a review of records.
Wood and Watson are charged with murder in the Nov. 20 death of Nancy Dailey. They're being held pending the resumption a preliminary hearing.
MDOC spokesman John Cordell says an internal investigation is under way to determine whether any work rules or department policies were violated regarding the supervision of Wood and Watson.
