The Michigan Department of Civil Rights is asking communities, religious congregations and schools to ring bells next Wednesday to mark the 50th anniversary of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech.
The department is coordinating the state's participation in an international commemoration of the address that King made during the 1963 March on Washington.
The department is asking people to ring bells at 3 p.m., the time when King began his speech. It asks that people who can't attend a "Let Freedom Ring!" event to set an alarm on their cells phone or tablets for 3 p.m.
