The first day of school is an easy one for Bukuro Erasto and his friends: "Seeing friends, meeting new people, and new teachers," said Erasto.
But it's tough to be prepared for an entire year of school, by the first day of class; making Labor Day one of the busiest days for back-to-school-shoppers.
"I'm so excited!," said Lewton Elementary's Marva Glass. She's used to the routine, and says she's all ready to welcome back the students, but came in on Labor Day for one last check.
"I decided to come in today to finish up on a few little items," said Glass.
Particularly for Lansing schools, this is a big year for reorganization of grades and teachers. But new Superintendent Yvonne Caamal Canul says the district is ready.
Now the students just need to be prepared too: "Go to bed early, eat your breakfast, do your work, and be nice," she said.
The same advice from Lansing School Board President Myra Ford: "Go to bed, get a good night's rest, make sure you eat a good breakfast in the morning whether you eat it at home or at school."
Erasto is ready for all of it, "I've got my clothes, shoes, everything." Except for having to change his sleep schedule again.
