Lansing started its new School Watch program Tuesday. The partnership between the school district, police and volunteers is designed to keep students safe and get the community involved. "It does take the community," said Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero. "The schools are not on an island. They're not in isolation. They're not out there alone. We work cooperatively with our school system in so many ways and we want to continue that and expand that." Sparrow Health System donated $10,000 to get School Watch up and running.
