A Lansing police officer was injured in an accident on southbound Pennsylvania Avenue as he was preparing to go up the Interstate 496 ramp.
Investigators say the officer's SUV ran into another vehicle. It happened around 5 p.m Monday.
The unidentified officer was on his way to a call for backup from a Michigan State Police trooper on the the freeway. He had his lights and siren on.
The police SUV suffered heavy damage to the driver's side and the airbag did deploy. However, the officer was walking around his vehicle when emergency help arrived.
The other driver was not injured.
