Lansing Police Offering Self-Defense Course for Women

By  |

The Lansing Police Department is holding a self-defense course for women in a couple of weeks.

The 2 1/2 hour program will be taught by three female police officers and doesn't cost a thing to attend. Women will learn how to be more aware of their surroundings and practice several "hands-on" self-defense techniques.

The course will take place on Tuesday, May 7, from 6pm to 8:30pm at the Lansing Police Department's North Precinct at 740 May Street in Lansing. The event will take place in the gym on the east side of the building, off Prudden Street.

Women must wear comfortable clothing and be emotionally mature enough to handle the content, as well as physically capable to perform the defense skills. The instructors for the course will be Sgt. Traci Ruiz, Officer Stephanie Bokovoy and Officer Jennifer Pung.

To register, contact Rhonda Mubarakeh at or call 517-483-4831. The class fills up fast, so don't waste anytime in signing up if you're interested. Another class will be held sometime in the fall.
