"We're basically trying to get back to full strength because there have been a number of retirements and there are some retirements schedules."

We'll find out tomorrow how the department is doing filling its vacancies. That's one of the items on the agenda when the city council's public-safety committee meets. Earlier this month we told you LPD had 16-spots to fill and was relying on overtime to make sure there were enough officers on the streets.

"We're basically trying to get back to full strength because there have been a number of retirements and there are some retirement’s schedules. So, we've hired back all the officers who were laid off - all who wanted to come - but because of retirements, we need more." -Mayor Virg Bernero/Lansing

The department started looking for people in April but was having trouble finding qualified candidates. We'll let you know where things stand tomorrow.
