Late Sunday afternoon, Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero declared a snow emergency.
The declaration will prohibit non-essential travel and all parking on city streets. It also closes all non-essential city government facilities and services on Monday.
All City of Lansing sponsored events and meetings are canceled.
The declaration also activates the city's Emergency Operations Center.
Emergency calls, snow removal and resident safety will be directed from the center.
City officials are working with the American Red Cross to determine the need to establish overnight shelters.
