Lansing has a new program to help people living in inefficient, unsafe, or unhealthy homes.
Mayor Virg Bernero signed the Green and Health Homes Initiative Thursday. It's a partnership between local agencies to proactively avoid things like asthma and lead poisoning in Lansing homes.
This is part of a nationwide initiative.
"We want to do more than put red tags on houses," Bernero said. "This is about being proactive and helping families to have a green, healthy home."
Bernero says the city can profit too, because it will be able to apply for federal and foundation grants.
