World Refugee awareness week wrapped up Saturday in Lansing with a 5K family run.
It's the second annual race in honor of refugees around the world who are forced to flee their homes under threats of persecution and violence.
The event was put on by Saint Vincent Catholic Charities.
Marissa Nalley, community outreach coordinator for the event, tells us hosting the run helps Lansing join an international celebration.
"Today, June 20th is actual World Refuge Day, so we are joining the international celebration of refugees," she said. "Celebrating their perseverance and their bravery as they leave their home county and come here to start a new life."
Over 180 runners participated in Saturday's event.
Organizers say they're already planning next year's race.
