Hundreds of kids in Jackson can now head back to school with new supplies and possibly even a new look.
The MLK Community Center hosted its back to school supply giveaway Sunday, handing out backpacks and other school supplies.
But the giving didn't stop there, hairstylists and barbers were on hand to give haircuts and even manicures.
The people behind the event say it's crucial for the success of the community and its children in school.
John Willis, manager of the MLK center said, "A lot of families come from financially challenged households and a financially challenged neighborhood, so for these families to be able to come in and have their children get their haircut and nails done, things they want done for their kids, pick up backpacks and school supplies for free...they can take that money and focus on things they need for their families."
Organizers say they'd like to expand this event and join with other organizations to make sure every child has the tools they need for a successful school year.
