UPDATE: Jackson Teen Killed In Accident Identified

17-year-old boy Jeremy Newsome from Jackson was killed during a single-car crash in Washtenaw County Tuesday eventing.

State police say the driver, 23-year-old Jessica Hafner of Ypsilanti, went into the left shoulder while trying to pass other cars while speeding on I-94 in Lima Township, and lost control of the car.

The car flipped several times after Hafner drove into the median.

Neither she nor Newsome was wearing seatbelts.

Both were thrown from the car. Hafner is now in critical condition.

Two other people were in the car; 28-year-old Samuel Cannon of Ypsilanti and Hafner's one-year-old son, Darwin.

Their conditions are not known.

Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.
