A man who owns a construction company in Jackson is nearly $1 million richer after hitting a jackpot at FireKeeper's Casino in Battle Creek.

Everett Pendergrass III was playing a "Lord of the Rings" slot machine last Friday when he hit a progressive jackpot for $905,879.

According to the casino, he plans on buying a lot of bonds with the money and donating some of the winnings to battered women shelters. He has no plans to stop working.

Another person from Jackson, whose name isn't being released, also won big last weekend, hitting nearly $41,000 on a "Red Lightning" slot machine.
