MASON (WILX)-- Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum decided early Saturday morning to open the office to start giving out marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

"People have waited long enough. I was sick with myself with the idea of waiting until Monday," said Byrum.

A federal judge in Detroit struck down Michigan's ban on same-sex marriage late Friday evening.

Since opening at 8 am and performing the very first same-sex marriage in Michigan, Byrum has issued more than twenty marriage licenses.

News Ten's Alyssa Fenske was at the courthouse today and will have more from the couples and details about the latest ruling.
