I-375 Redesign Proposals

DETROIT (AP) -- Officials have released details on six alternative versions for the redesign of Interstate 375, a spur off of I-75 that feeds into downtown Detroit.

The Detroit Economic Growth Corp. posted illustrations of the plans online Sunday. Cost estimates run from $40 million to $80 million.

A public meeting to describe and get comment on the plans is scheduled for 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Detroit Eastern Market Shed 5.

One plan would reconstruct I-375 along the lines of its current design, with some ramp improvements. The other plans all include traffic links between the expressway and Atwater Street, the surface road that's closest to the Detroit River.

Three of the plans call for shortening I-375 by starting the transition to surface streets farther north.
