Employees in a southeast Michigan school district still face an apparent "payless payday" this week even though Gov. Rick Snyder says he'll sign legislation to try and keep the district's buildings open for the rest of the academic year.
The Republican-led Legislature passed the measure late Thursday, and Snyder spokeswoman Sara Wurfel told The Associated Press he'll sign it Friday morning.
Friday also is a payday for Highland Park schools employees, but the financially strapped district surrounded by Detroit doesn't appear to have the cash to meet payroll.
The district is being run by the Highland Park school board after a court ruling temporarily reversed the appointment of a state emergency manager.
The state gave the district two recent advances but appears unwilling to make another advance payment.
