With only five service technicians, A1 Mechanical in Lansing has been overwhelmed with calls from people looking to have air conditioning units installed or have one fixed.
"We have around 50 calls a day," said Jennifer Dumont, service dispatcher for A1 Mechanical. "That's up ten to 15 calls from where we were a year ago."
To keep up with those calls, Dumont says, their technicians have put in 12 to 13 hour days, starting at around 8 a.m. and going to 8 or 9 p.m.
Many of the calls A1 receives has to do with air conditioning units not producing enough cold air, something that can easily be fixed, says technician Nick Klein.
"They're just not maintained properly, the filters are dirty," said Klein. "Wash it off with a garden hose and change the filter."
To keep out the heat, experts say closing the blinds will help do the trick.
