Olympic hopeful Hannah Miller of Williamston is in 7th place, after the first day of senior competition at the U.S. Figure Skating National Championships in Boston.
The 17 year-old figure skater was the 16th of 21 skaters to compete in the senior ladies’ short program Thursday night. Her high energy performance “Firebird” earned 56.49 points.
A favorite to make the Olympic team, Gracie Gold, is in the lead with a score of 72.12 points. Polina Edmunds made her senior debut with a 2nd place performance with 66.75 points. 2010 Olympian Mirai Nagasu is in 3rd place with 65.44 points. Two-time reigning champion Ashley Wagner sits in fourth place with 64.71 points.
Miller will be among the top 10 skaters to perform their long programs live on NBC Saturday night. Coverage begins at 6:45 p.m.
