Another mid-Michigan law enforcement agency is getting protection for one of its four-legged officers.
The Grand Ledge Police Department will be getting a bullet and stab-proof vest for its K-9 Dash, thanks to the Massachusetts-based non-profit, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests for law enforcement dogs throughout the United States.
Each vest costs $950.00 and has a 5 year warranty. Through private and corporate sponsorships, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided over 580 law enforcement dogs with protective vests since their inception in August of 2009.
A donation made to the charity of $950 for the "Helping Paws for K9's" event that was hosted by each of the Dartmouth Dental practices over the holidays made the gift possible for Dash.
Earlier this month, the Eaton County Sheriff's Office received a vest for its K-9 Onyx and hopes to get more for its two other dogs in the near future.
