LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Gov. Rick Snyder is expected to sign a bill that would trim the number of judges on the Michigan Court of Appeals.
Snyder spokeswoman Sara Wurfel said Wednesday the Republican governor is likely to sign the bill pending a final review. The measure won overwhelming bipartisan approval in the Legislature.
The bill would leave the appeals court with 24 judges, down from the 28 now allowed by law. The court currently has 26 judges because Snyder hasn't filled two vacancies.
The State Court Administrative Office has suggested that the four positions could be eliminated because the number of filings in the appeals system has dropped in recent years.
Snyder signed eight other bills Wednesday that will trim the number of probate, district and circuit court judgeships statewide through attrition.
