Gov. Snyder to Speak at Helen Milliken Service

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) -- Gov. Rick Snyder and U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow will be among speakers at a memorial service for former Michigan first lady Helen Milliken next month in Traverse City.

Son Bill Milliken Jr. says another speaker will be Joyce Braithwaite-Brickley, a longtime close friend of Helen Milliken and a former executive assistant and campaign manager for then-Gov. William Milliken.

The service will be held June 3 in the Milliken Auditorium of the Dennos Museum at Northwestern Michigan College.

Helen Milliken was the state's longest-serving first lady and a staunch supporter of women's rights and the environment. She died last November at age 89.

A reception will follow the memorial service in the museum's Sculpture Court.
