A natural gas leak forced the evacuation of the Lansing Mall and the adjacent Best Buy store for nearly two hours Wednesday afternoon.
Two "reg-stations", which are used to regulate gas in Consumers Energy supply pipes, were venting gas. That happens as a safety measure when the system is over-pressurized.
One of the regulators is at Lansing Road and Creyts Road. The other is at Creyts and Saginaw Highway.
The venting gas was blowing across the mall property.
Delta Township's fire department and the Lansing Fire Department assisted with the evacuation. A hazmat crew checked gas levels inside the mall & Best Buy store to make sure it was safe before the all clear was given.
There weren't any reports of injuries.
Gas to customers in the surrounding area was interrupted.
