Garden for Homeless Vets

The Appropriations Committee wants to reduce medical claims for veterans in South Texas.

Volunteers from the Greater Lansing Housing Coalition are helping homeless veterans with a new project. They've created a garden at Pere Marquette drive to for the veterans living at the Volunteers of America. Organizers say there is a need for this type of project in the community.

"The region needs a lot of help, as far as creating spaces where people can access the food, economic development, learn job skills, improvement with education," said Lia Spaniolo of Americorp Vista Program. "This is just one site of several, which is helping develop these kinds of things."

The garden will include seven beds, full of things like fresh veggies and other produce.
