ORCHARD LAKE, Mich. (AP) -- A free firearms lesson is being offered at an Oakland County range for women who want to learn about gun safety and self-defense.
The lesson for the first 100 women to register starts at 11 a.m. Sunday at Target Sports II Gun Range in Orchard Lake, northwest of Detroit.
It's organized by Rick's Firearm Academy of Detroit. Participants will receive a safety briefing and learn how to use a firearm and ammunition. No previous gun training or experience is required.
Firearms instructor Rick Ector says a free event last year drew 50 participants and that most women who take the training want to learn about personal protection.
