Former Jackson Mayor Karen Dunigan died Tuesday morning after a two-month battle with cancer. She was 61 years old. Dunigan beat incumbent Jerry Ludwig in the 2009 race. She served one term as Mayor. She also spent more than three decades in the real estate business. Before her death, Jackson College announced plans to honor her with the "Distinguished Service Award" at Saturday's commencement as a reward for her involvement in the Jackson community.
