SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (AP) -- The Southfield fire department says crews worked for nearly 12 hours to extinguish a stubborn blaze outside a sprawling recycling center in the Detroit suburb.
The department says it cleared the scene on Friday morning. It says one firefighter reported an upper body strain that didn't require medical treatment.
On Thursday evening, flames were seen shooting from a lot near a building housing the Resource Recovery and Recycling Authority of Southwest Oakland County. The area held large bundles of recycled paper, cardboard and plastics.
Authorities say the building escaped the flames, which were fed by high winds. Dozens of firefighters from several agencies responded.
The Southfield fire department says the cause wasn't known Friday morning.
Receptacles at the center accept newspapers, magazines, boxes, plastic containers, computers and other electronics.
