Volunteers from police and fire agencies across Eaton, Ingham and Clinton counties joined people from the community on Wednesday, to make sure no senior citizen goes without a Christmas.

They gathered at Lansing's Marshall Street Fire Station #8 to assemble 300 gift baskets full of basic necessities and food.
Volunteers delivered those baskets to seniors using marked patrol cars and fire engines.

Sgt. Traci Ruiz of the Lansing Police Department helps organize the effort. She says, "It is awesome, and it's word of mouth that spreads. We usually have about 120 volunteers, and literally it is word of mouth how they find out and they show up on this day to stuff boxes, it's awesome."

Ingham County TRIAD coordinates the effort, using donations and money raised at it's annual "Senior Prom. The organization works to make a difference in the lives of senior citizens.
