Brooklyn, Mich. (WILX) More than 100,000 people will be getting revved up this weekend at Michigan International Speedway.
It's hailed as the official start of the racing season in Michigan--an event organizers say is even bigger than the Super Bowl.
Thousands of campers had already packed into the track's infield as of Thursday evening.
"Just being here, the excitement of the cars and the sounds and everything, it's just awesome," said Brad Kline.
Several attendees have made the race an annual tradition, traveling from all across the state and even the country.
"It's more exciting to be here, you can see the cars up close and you don't have to be on a couch and fall asleep," said Jake Landers laughing.
And race weekend not just a tradition, but a family affair for many of the fans in attendance.
"Usually we come for qualifying and practicing and we just have a mother-daughter day," said Sharie Niblock who has been coming to the race with her daughter for years.
Josh Leuszler brought his family from Canada to see the race in person.
"We love it, we're coming again next year, if not we're going to go to Pocono and just enjoy the Nascar circuit," he said.
"It's all about the kids, it's the next generation that brings it up and if they're not liking it then there's no more Nascar."
Sarah Croft and her young son spent part of Friday afternoon watching the cars and crews work in the pits.
"I think it's just the whole experience and the speed and hearing the engines rev up," she said.
"Nascar is a different kind of sport and it's more kid-friendly and people here are just so nice and accommodating for the kids."
In addition to the races this weekend, there are also two concerts scheduled for the weekend.
