The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating Sunday's small plane crash on Pine Hill Lake in Jackson County's Hanover Township.

It happened just before 7pm.

The pilot and his passenger, both residents of Alpena, were attempting to land on the lake when the engine lost power, hit a tree and crashed into the lake.

Both occupants were able to exit the plane on their own and were later taken to Allegiance Hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

State police were assisted at the scene by the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Hanover Township Fire Department, Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Environmental Quality.
